Learn More about Kingston’s Festive Friday

Hi! I’m Malobi, a singer-songwriter and instrumentalist based in Kingston, Ontario. I grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, and I’ve loved music for as long as I’ve been conscious of its existence. I play the harp, piano and flute, but right now, the harp has an extra special place in my heart. I fell in love with its beautiful, calming sound, and now I spend a good deal of my musical energy testing just how far I can take it (perhaps metalhead harp coming soon!).

I love storytelling, and music is one of my favourite ways to express feelings I can’t quite put into words. It’s a space where I can experiment and just be myself.

My musical tastes are all over the place (in the best way!). I love indie folk, country, R&B, and Afrobeats, and I have very little respect for genre boundaries so you’ll find me mixing and matching all the time. I write my own songs and I love reimagining familiar favourites. I also make music with my two sisters as part of Sam The Band (@sam.theband).

More than anything, I love connecting with people through music, so I’m looking forward to sharing a little piece of myself and my art with you at the show!

The restorative worshop was absolutely amazing. It was a slow and very relaxing. Holding the positions with different points of massage was made me not want the class to end. I was so relaxed, at times I almost forgot where I was and almost fell asleep. Would do this class every time it’s offered.

I attended to the Sound Journey class last Saturday with one friend. The feelings and emotions that we experimented throughout the whole journey are unbeatable. We are both not used to achieve that level of relaxation so this was a very different experience for us. I totally recommend it, there is a moment where you even loose control of your nervous system and your mind. Moreover, I would like to mention the awesome and kind treatment that we received from all the staff, as well as the atmosphere inside the studio. We would definitely come back!

I had the opportunity to participate in the Sound Bath last weekend and it was a very powerful and heart opening experience. I had no idea what to expect as it was my first time however Tricia gave an incredible experience where we were able to focus inwardly on what the sounds meant to us and the feelings they evoked. Laying comfortably wrapped in blankets and enjoying the sounds allowed the stress, anxiety and tensions to melt away. If you have been on the fence about trying I would encourage you to participate in the next experience!
